Kern Hockey provides athletes with on-ice professional training and expert instruction, combined with in-game drills. Our staff is trained to identify, demonstrate, and verbally break-down modern hockey terminologies and techniques in real-time. We are focused on implementing the foundation of overall skating and skills so that athletes can learn the specific techniques, terminologies, and skillsets to apply in a drill, and ultimately that transfers to their gameplay. By focusing on age-appropriate critical skills specific techniques every player should be learning something new at every training session.
The development process must be broken down and articulated properly to show players exactly what needs to be learned and addressed. Correcting Individual player habits and techniques (both good and bad) we are providing players a strong learning foundation.
Specializing in teaching all skill sets; power skating, stickhandling, dekes, puck protection, shooting, passing, checking, and in-game situational drills. We are passionate about monitoring and developing athletes at all ages and levels (youth to NHL), and proud to bring the most up-to-date hockey instruction. These elite training methods and innovative hockey developments brings the baseline skill level of the next generation players to another level. JOSH KERN - Anchorage, Alaska
Coach Kern brings a wealth of experience and knowledge, playing professionally, teaching, and coaching at the youth to professional levels. Kern conveys a fresh and modern approach to hockey training and development. Specializing in teaching all skill sets. He’s passionate about monitoring and developing athletes, staff instructors, and coaches, and prideful for bringing the most up-to-date hockey instruction with a new sense of high energy and enthusiasm on and off the ice. His passion is training the newer generation of hockey players the “NEW” game of hockey.
Kern grew up playing hockey for the Alaska All-Stars. He was drafted by both the Red Deer Rebels (WHL) and the Dubuque Fight Saints (USHL). He spent two years in the USHL as an All-Star and played for Team USA U17. He then played for the Minnesota State Mavericks and went on to play pro hockey for the St. Louis Blues organization.
Josh has been instructing players between youth to NHL levels for the past 29 years. He’s coached AAA teams at the youth to junior levels for the past 20 years. He possesses a unique ability to identify, demonstrate, and verbally break-down modern hockey training, combined with technology teaching, and then be applied to practice drills that mimic game scenarios. He has mentored and developed players currently playing at the National, Division I College, NHL, and Olympic levels, including four players that were drafted in the 2021 NHL Draft.
His instructional on-ice training provides expert coaching analysis that utilizes the newest technique break-down, individualized detailed instruction, on-ice instant video analysis, and player profiling data. A new way to incorporate and demonstrate modern hockey techniques, terminologies, and visual teaching instruction to help maximize the full potential of each player’s skill sets, individual talents, and in-game tactical awareness. Kern’s elite training methods and innovative hockey developments bring the baseline skill level of the next generation players to another level.
