Camp Overview:

This camp provides professional on-ice training specifically designed to elevate your player's skating performance. We offer detailed instruction, precise technique breakdown, clear demonstrations, effective habit correction, and identify specific areas for improvement for each participant.

During this intensive camp, our primary focus will be on mastering fundamental skating skills, both with and without a puck. We emphasize studying specific skating mechanics with high repetitions to build muscle memory and efficiency.

Key Skating Mechanics & Techniques:

  • Forward and Backward Stride: Focusing on extension, recovery, weight transfer, and changes of speed.

  • Edges: Mastering inside edge, outside edge, and flat edge control.

  • Heel Stride: Wide stance pushing off your inside edges.

  • Toe Starts: Both "walking" and "running" on your toes for explosive acceleration.

  • Power-Turns

  • Mohawks

  • Crossovers

  • Transitions and Pivots: Enhancing lateral movement, agility, reflexes, and speed.

  • Jumps: Improving balance and control.

Pucks will be consistently incorporated into the skating drills, ensuring players can execute their refined skating techniques with a puck, directly translating skills to game situations.

We also believe in making training engaging and fun! Sessions will include activities focused on strength, power, and endurance, such as bungee cords, tug-of-war, dodgeball, football, and kickball. To cap off each session, we'll include 3 vs. 3 games to apply learned skills in a competitive environment.

Stickhandling, Dekes, & Scoring Hockey Camp

8/24-8/28 @Champlin Ice Forum

  • Levels: Mite/Squirt & Peewee/Bantam

  • Dates: August 25th - August 29th

  • Days: Monday through Friday

  • Times: 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM (Full-day camp)

  • Location: Champlin Ice Forum

  • Prorate and drop-in options listed below

This camp provides professional on-ice training designed to elevate your player's offensive game. We offer detailed instruction, precise technique breakdown, clear demonstrations, effective habit correction, and identify specific areas for improvement for each participant.

During this intensive camp, our primary focus will be on mastering stickhandling set-up positions (forehand, backhand, quarter body, cross body, and full expansion of reach). To effectively execute dekes, players must first learn how to prepare and position the puck. Before every deke, you need to place the puck in one of the five essential setup positions to successfully complete and execute your move. We will combine these set-up positions with various dekes, leading directly into a shot, all within in-game drills that seamlessly transfer to real game scenarios.

Key Focus Areas:

SET-UP POSITIONS

All the necessary stickhandling positions listed below will be learned to effectively set up all dekes:

  • Between the Feet: For quick changes of direction and tight control.

  • Forehand: Standard strong-side control.

  • Quarter: Intermediate position for quick moves.

  • Cross-body: Essential for deceptive movements and opening lanes.

  • Backhand: Crucial for protecting the puck and moving into scoring areas.

REACHES

Using your puck set-up positions, we will work on controlling the puck when extended away from the body, enhancing your ability to maintain possession and evade defenders:

  • Lateral Reach Forehand

  • Lateral Reach Backhand

  • Full Lateral Reach

DEKES

We will work on dekes from all set-up positions and at different angles, preparing players to have a variety of options when looking to defeat a defender or goalie:

  • Foot-to-foot: Quick, deceptive puck movement.

  • Slips Throughs: Maneuvering the puck through tight spaces.

  • Pull Back: Creating space from a defender.

  • Toe Pull: Bringing the puck into a shooting or deking position.

  • Pull In/Push Out: Controlling defender's stick and body.

  • Side Deke: Changing angles to open up lanes.
